Why I Founded Periti Studios in Cyprus
Why I started an independent, digital-first film studio on a Mediterranean island — and what I wanted it to be from day one.
By Alexander Kiesel, film producer, director, and founder of Periti Studios.

The gap I kept seeing
For years the same thing bothered me about how films get made. The tools to imagine something extraordinary were getting cheaper and more capable every month, while the machinery around production stayed slow, expensive, and gated. A small team with a clear vision still could not reach the scale of a studio release — not because the ideas were missing, but because the pipeline was built for a different era.
I didn't want to keep waiting for permission from that pipeline. I wanted to find out what a tiny, modern team could actually make if it treated the new tools seriously instead of as a novelty.
Why Cyprus
People expect a film studio to sit in Los Angeles or London. I built mine in Cyprus, in Nicosia, and that was a deliberate choice rather than an accident of geography. The island is calm, well connected, and far enough from the usual hubs that the work gets shaped by its own taste instead of whatever happens to be fashionable that month.
Distance from the center turns out to be a creative advantage. If you want to reach the studio or see exactly where we're based, the contact page and the studio page have the details.
What independent and digital-first means
Independent means I keep creative control from the first frame to the final cut. Digital-first means the studio is built around small crews and modern, AI-assisted tools rather than large physical productions.
In practice that lets me test a whole visual world quickly, keep only the versions that genuinely land, and move at a speed traditional production was never designed for. I broke down the actual method in how I make AI films.
What we make
The studio is a home for cinematic work with a recognisable point of view. Red Empress is built around royal power and myth; The Last Amazon around survival and tension; Periti Combat turns staged fights into cinema; and Still Motion strips everything back to calm, lo-fi 2.5D animation.
Different moods, one method: decide how something should feel, then protect that feeling through every decision that follows.
Where it's headed
Periti Studios is still early, and that's the exciting part. The plan isn't to get bigger for its own sake — it's to keep shipping work that looks like one person's vision rather than a committee's, and to let each new project sharpen what the studio is.
